why

we seldom understand the reasoning behind why things happen. in the heavenly realm it manifests as "why did God allow this happen?" or "why did God do this to me?"

then we stumble into the sustaining word:

Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. 11No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. - Hebrews 7:10

Blessed is the man you discipline, O LORD,
the man you teach from your law; - Psalm 94:12

in the earthly realm it manifests as "my parents freaking suck, what they hell are they doing?"

Here's something I'm continually learning, especially now as my trust is being stretched:

We want to break free from restraint, from those imposing themselves on us so that we can spread our wings; which is a valid healthy thing. God I believe intends for that, that we leave our father and mother and start a new life with a mate, but in the mean time there must be some balance to learning what people are trying to instill in us. am i so uber-smart, uber-spiritual that i've got it all figured out and can ask for favors from God or whomever without expecting, and rightly so, some wise discipline and teaching?
where is our trust in all this? can we trust those around us and God that they ultimately want the best for us, can we see through their sometimes faulty way of teaching to the lesson they are trying to bless us with? can we validate their humanity and experience, tolerating their fallen nature, understanding the love behind it all?
if we run from the discpline of God aren't we also running from the blessing that inevitably comes?

there is no script for this play, no dance steps laid out in advance, we're all just trying to make our way as best as possible. if we're seeking the heart of God, do we need to fear missing out on things? can trust enough to make our way humbly ---

my friend Matt just started a new teaching job and he was explaining his classroom rules. he said he has 3 rules, respect, respect, respect. You respect me, i'll respect you, let's respect the space we're in. (i simplified, he said much more eloquently).

a bit of a ramble sorry.....
