Have I ever mentioned that I'm awkward.....
Today I was in Santa Rosa for work, you know doing my normal geek thing that allows me to live this fairytale life I lead. As the day was winding down Kathie informed that she just got off the phone with a co-worker who has spent the last 4 hours on highway 101-S to go what would normally take 40 minutes. Great - just how I want to end my day. Kathie offers to draw a map of a scenic route that would bypass most of the traffic but would also take quite a bit longer to drive. I love scenic drives so this option doesn't sound all that bad really, she then proceeds to offer another option. I can come over to her house and have dinner with her and her husband. Hmmm - that could be a bit awkward - I barely know this woman. I've spoken her maybe a dozen times. So what would you do - take the adventurous scenic route drive following a hand drawn map or move into a known potentially awkward situation. After leaving the office and declining the invitation for dinner I make my way down the scenic route, and 10 minutes later call Kathie and tell her I've changed my mind. I'm down for dinner. The scenic route would be amazing no doubt, but what's better than showing up at someone's home when the only person there is their husband until they arrive. Eating their food and learning about their story.
It was a great evening - and I love to her people's stories. So enriching. We discussed books, the Jesus movement, the Catholic church, love and serendipity, and some of her family history. Priceless.
I recommend potentially awkward.
