Page Street

Since moving to the city Kristen and I have been at the Page Street Center every Monday to help sort and pass out groceries as well as mingle with the people. There's always an interesting cast of characters waiting to receive groceries - people without homes, struggling artists, street kids strung out on meth, and a mix of transgender people.

A couple ago weeks Nate, Kristen and I were all hit on by the same person - Erica. It was the first Monday of the month and there a lot less people hanging out and Erica said "Oh, baby that's because it's crack check day," indicating that today everyone receives their check and are out scoring. By her own admission Erica loves crack and loves sex and has no intention of changing. I wonder could it be that Erica is so far removed from her brokenness that there are no thoughts of dealing with it. Removed enough to believe that she is super-human, God-like even as when the topic of HIV/AIDS came up Erica said she was impervious and meant it. "Oh, honey the disease can't even touch me."

The next week Mark ran into her outside of Naan N Curry selling herion.
