what would happen if instead of talking about things at youth group, we actually practiced them in a group? I think dramatic things would begin to take place. One major reason why perhaps we don't is because we ourselves as supposed leaders do not know how to practice exactly, or better what to practice. The lectures, they're old and tired. I was just reflecting on building the house at kirkwood this past summer and just how much was "learned" and the best of it was learned with no verbal interaction whatsoever. In fact there was no intentional motive to teach some of things, but nonetheless they were taught because life was shared. Some things that were impressed upon me were the notion of getting things done when you have no idea what you're doing. But by plowing forward you end accomplishing your goal, true you may have to go at it a few times and redo some things but nonetheless it gets done. The inclusion of God in everything and simply the bond that is build by sharing space with people.
We've been here before at staff meetings, talking about such things but not with this analogy and not today, so i say bring it up again and try at it again. So i'll bring it up, much to the shagrin of some of the folks there I'm sure.
