Suffering. there is something of a God given gift here. on my bike ride yesterday i couldn't help but think about why the heck i'm punishing myself? a small piece of divination perhaps.
do you consider pushing yourself on a bicycle suffering? i don't quite understand your reasoning. it seems as though the suffering you speak of is a choice. however, the suffering of the world...the tragedies...the heartbreak...the injustices...that kind of suffering seems more like that which can bring divination, for without suffering there would be no need for the hope of Christ. i will agree that pushing oneself physically is a good sort of pain, but suffering?
I am by no means comparing the pain experienced cycling to that brought on by external injustices. I struggle to find words at this moment as what I was experiencing wasn't ethereal or cognitive but more elemental at that moment. I think part of it relates to the false dichotomy of body and spirit. In my experience thus far physical pain over an extended period of time is not merely physical anymore, it bleeds into my emotions, my spirit and stirs something between flesh and bone. Awakening the divine perhaps and that is why I said "divination", as that relates to suffering from external injustices perhaps that is why those who suffer the greatest injustices are closest to God.
