will I ever change. My mind is incessantly spinning. I lay down to sleep and thoughts rush through about vocation, about next steps, about people, about creativity workshops. The thinking doesn't seem to stop which in turn creates a restless spirit within me. Oh if I could only flip a switch, my mind is a guard often that keeps me from fully living in the moment. I'm constantly analyzing decisions trying to make the correct one, afraid to follow my instincts. It's a theme of my life. Will I ever change?

there is poetry in it. so if you do change, hopefully you'll keep the humble poetry. there is beauty there, in the unknown, the the frantic.
it's like tragic romance.
sorry, i wish i had the answer.
i myself battle the war.
I know that fear.
sorry to take so long to comment. here's what i think.
no, you will never ever "change". there is only death and rebirth. everything that has been will be, and everything that is, was. the prince of the air whispers that we should be able to rise above the earth and the cycles. but we are made of earth.
If you slow down your breathing and don't try to stop all of the thoughts, they will actually stop. You need to accept what your mind is doing. Don't fear it, it will actually make it worse. Also maybe try journaling for 10 minutes before you go to sleep. It will help to empty your mind.

Oh yeah: here is another idea. Find something interesting to look at...something with a lot of detail, like maybe a card. Stare at the details for 10 minutes. It will clear your mind and you will "be in the moment." It is amazing how much this works. =)
Because of my Hyperthyroidism/Grave's Disease, I had a lot of racing thoughts, anxiety, etc. Because I depended on God for help, I learned a lot of "skills" to cope with it.
ALSO stay away from caffeine and sugar. They are stimulants and can cause those racing thoughts.
Lord give Adam peace of mind every night before he goes to sleep. Take away the racing thoughts and help him to not analyze everything (we all get this way --help us all). Father give him the skills he needs when the racing thoughts occur. I love You and Praise You! In Jesus name, AMEN!
