very interesting stuff, love! your frustration is evident, but the purity of your motivations is as well. Your desire for growth, change, restoration in the Church is so very needed. Good to read the last bit, eh? A humble heart is key.
I've been mulling over all this quite a bit. Such a hard place to be for all of you who are like-minded in this issue. What if a church-wide meeting was held? Everyone, all together, open forum, to discuss this growing chasm?
Christ is the 'bridegroom' of the Church- how he must long for Her. How he must ache for Her restoration, Her revival and return to Him. Above all, i trust in God's perfection, his timing, his faithful pursuit of our hearts. I trust in his longing for his Bride and his ability to restore Her.
Let us implore our Father to come through! To reveal his face and soften hearts. Let us pray for humility, discernment, and guidance as we walk in faith, offering our strength, revealing our hearts.
After run-through on tuesday night, let's have a prayer meeting for Youth Sunday.
if you get a chance, read this book about rich mullins called "an arrow pointing to heaven." it definitely challenged and encouraged me. he was such a wise man... as far as what brian is saying, i am mulling it over- a 2nd reformation, hmm, and a comment made by a friend at our community life group last night. she goes to a local seminary and a group of older women held a "mug and muffin" gathering. she literally said that as these women were sharing about their lives, it was as if they were speaking another language. their intent was good, but the execution far from the mark. do you think this struggle touched on by both adam and then brian deals more with the chasm between modernists, postmodernists and those beyond even that? i would be interested to see what my buddy jason over at www.jasonelder.blogspot.com would say. he's a local pastor of a pomo worship service in marin. adam, i bet you and he could have amazing conversations.
thanks all for the encouragement and for the book recommendation annelies. andrew jones has a great post about the new movement of the church it's possibility of being a new reformation. I for one think that yes it is occuring, here's the link to andrew's post:
